Overview

In this scenario, we have an HR department. As with many organizations, the HR team members share information using spreadsheets, shared drives, and email messages. As a result, nobody within the team can see the overall status of any process. Through the steps described in the video, the HR team exposes the status within a flexible, visible, collaborative system.

Steps

  1. HR starts by reproducing the department structure as a map.

  2. They break down each category/objective into smaller categories (Teams broken down into Sales/Marketing).

  3. The team builds out their processes for handling grievances and disciplinary procedures, under the corresponding category.

  4. As work is assigned, the tasks appear the user's home page as a new work item. They go into the project and, if needed, break down the work into smaller pieces.

The % Complete is collects at the top so that, as items are completed, the team gets real-time status checks on all work items, groups of work items, and projects. This permits the group to know who is responsible for which items and how close they are to achieving their objectives.
